1938 - Bands of Nazis destroyed Jewish shops, synagogues, and killed, beat, or arrested thousands of Jews in Germany, Austria, and other Nazi-controlled areas. The attack, became known as Kristallnacht or "Crystal Night" for all the broken glass in the streets.

1985: America welcomes Charles and Diana

Prince Charles and Princess Diana have ended the first day of their much-vaunted trip to the USA at a gala dinner in the Washington, hosted by President Reagan and his wife Nancy.
They mixed with movie stars, such as Clint Eastwood, John Travolta, Tom Selleck and the singer Neil Diamond as well as politicians and businessmen.

1970 - Bhola cyclone: A 150-mph tropical cyclone hits the densely populated Ganges Delta region of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), killing an estimated 500,000 people in one night (this is regarded as the 20th century's worst natural disaster).

1620 - The Mayflower arrived off the coast of Cape Cod. Peregrine White was born aboard the Mayflower.

(1620–1703) Colonist, Peregrine White, born on the Mayflower in Cape Cod Bay, USA. His parents were William and Susanna White, and he was the first English child born in New England (another child, Oceanus Hopkins, had been born at sea). He became a captain of militia and settled in Marshfield, MA.
