Project selection and Priority

I have multiple projects selected but so far, only one has been running (Protein Folding). I was wondering how WCG chooses which projects will be run on what computer. Is it based on demand for certain projects so that each have an opportunity to as many computers as possible? It seems like WCG could give priority to certain projects this way.

Basically, I would like to give priority list to the projects so that if my #1 (cancer project) didn't have any work, then #2 (protein folding) would take over until #1 came back online. And if #1 and #2 went down, then #3 would take over and so on.

But, no matter what, it is still great to be a part of this. It makes me want to go out and buy 10 computers just for running the WCG. biggrin

Thanks in advance
Matt

Re: Project selection and Priority

The cancer project is now done which is why you have no work for it. Other projects are (I assume) sent out as demand requires and depending on the specs of your pc. You can select your number one choice of project and then the option to send work if there is none available for your chosen project but you cannot have a number 2, 3 choice etc.

Re: Project selection and Priority

Well, yes, some of us DO have dedicated crunching farms.

The distribution of work is mostly random unless specific projects are selected. Checking the BOINC box (if you are running BOINC) to allow other projects if work runs out is recommended.

If you check two projects, the work is random between those two projects.

There is also a resource check. If your computer cannot handle a project that requires more speed and memory ... and you don't have it, you won't get it. It doesn't matter then whether you checked it or not.
