Hello folks.
---------------------------------------- Another newbie refugee from Grid.org (RIP) here! Using the UD Monitor program I was able to store spare work units, which I could crunch while offline. Is there any equivalent here on the BOINC agent? I will be unable to go online for a few days next week, and I would like to line up a pile of work for the computer to chew over in the interim. Thanks in advance.............. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 28, 2007 9:37:38 PM] |

Hello J Hull,
You can draw several days of work units by going to My Grid - Device Manager - Device Profiles and changing your BOINC profile (Save after changing). In the Network Usage section of your profile, change 'Connect to network about every 0.3 days' to a longer period of time. The formula that BOINC uses is complicated and keeps changing in new versions, but it is difficult to draw more than ?3.5? days of work even if you ask for a week because of safety factors that try to avoid drawing lots of work units. BOINC caches work anyway. You can increase the cache size by going to http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...iguration.do?name=Default and setting "Connect to network about every x days" to a larger value - 0.5 is a good setting normally, but increase it up to maybe 5 if you are planning on going offline.
BOINC only uses this as a hint, so don't be worried if it doesn't seem to have queued the exact amount you expected. |

In your boinc profile set the network thing to 10 days and then you'll have a work cache to chew on.

Thank you, all, I have changed the interval to 10 days.
However, when I hit update, there is a short conversations and then I get the 'communication defered for 5 minutes' message. Please could anyone tell me how I can 'provoke' the system into delivering lots of 'work units'? Janet |

Just wait....
Or if nothing happens after 5 minutes, hit "Update" again. |

Splendid!
The next unit is due to finish in an hour or so. There is a big 6 hour unit waiting, which should keep it busy until tomorrow morning. Thanks for you help, and goodnight from sunny England. G'night all |

Overall, BOINC is more automatic and has more options and versatility.
----------------------------------------To answer the original question, yes, UDMonitor still works with the WCG version of UD.EXE. You just have to use the WCG bat file to start it. Otherwise it is the same. If you have set up BOINC, stay with it.
