Re: Running HCC

WCG is just a tough project to get anyone to crunch and or switch over to :(

the cred's arent that good plus it will drop their base RAC and alot of crunchers dont like that..... i myself will be switching to another project to get my RAC back up :) plus im on my quest to 1 million in total Combined :) :)

but i will return,,, i think WCG is and prolly always be the MOST WORTHY project out there.

Re: Running HCC

I passed 5000 results.

Oh boy. biggrin

WTG!! Great Total!

That's 5000 more units than many will ever return, and who knows how many lives may be saved by it.

Didn't realize the WCG was so lousy for credit, you would think that they would make the more worthwhile projects worth more to attract people to them?

Mind you it can't really be that bad as I have passed a quarter million in BOINC credit. biggrin

Today also marks 1 year crunching for the WCG!
Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 5:064:19:30:31 (#2,463)
Points Generated (Rank) 1,936,025 (#2,134)
Results Returned (Rank) 9,802 (#1,227)
I think I will treat myself to a dinner out for all the hard work, hmmm maybe I should give my computer the night off . . . . naa, it likes working. laughing

Congratulations to everyone who crunched so hard over the last year.

In the last year, crunching on the WCG has roughtly doubled, lets hope the trend continues until the day that Cancer, Aids or West Nile, are just an excuse for a day or two off work while you get cured!

[courine struck by PTSD, has delusional episode]

Yes soldier, I was talking to Lt Cmd Cargod awhile back about this. I said, "I love the sound of CPU fans. There is no sound like it.. It reminds me of the fight back in grid.org, where every result, every point, every hour of CPU time was met with a salute. I cant quite place it. That whirring? But to me, there's nothing like waking to the sound of CPU fans in the morning. It seems to sound like a call. It sounds like?... It sounds like?..... victory."

You know Royden, someday this will all be over. That every work unit screened. In heavens name, what will we do?

[courine walks aimlessly away and forgets to congratulate Royden until next post wink ]

Thanks!!

To me, it's not about the points or rank.
I've had cancer, my Mother and Grandmother died of it. And I know people with many other diseases.
If I can contribute to helping them (or myself) in some small way; I will do so.
My first distributed computing project was SETI and at one time, I was in the top 500 in the world in individual results.
But that was years ago.
Once I found cancer/medical research, I switched.
I've never seen ET, but I have been sick.
Maybe ET would have cures for us, but maybe they would bring something that would wipe us out...that is impossible to know.

sad Re: Running HCC

Dear Cargod,

I'm so glad you can run HCC without problems. I can only with 1 right now. It's not the points or results loss, it's the loss of shear efficancy on some machines and crashing on others.

This is a real problem for me as I have had to spend weeks figuring out why the nightmare. I could be working on the q6600 system, but why? It seems that multicore systems really don’t like HCC. The other single core machines I have parts for now, must run Linux.

I have spent months working on a way to help the team challenge system into league competition. This would help improve overall crunching here by increasing the membership, as many would come. But with the HCC project in place, I don’t even dare. As anyone who looks closely, will notice the problem. What a way to show the new people how wonderful crunching can be.

Do you know I cant even complain. As if I do, I'm sure to be labeled a pita.

Can you blame me for haveing a bit of PTSD? For the only thing for me worse here, is if you couldn’t crunch HCC. As for all of us, you are the most worthy.
