Does powering down lose work?

Hi All,

I'd like to know if powering down my computer, say overnight, will cause BOINC to lose any work it has already performed? I ask because I sometimes get a message when I boot up up saying:
Task lb220_00115_6 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project
Restarting task lb220_00115_6 using hpf2 verison 518

Thanks.

No madam/sir, and the message you see is a rather benign one. I saw them almost every morning when coming out of "Hibernation" (the PCs that is). Hibernation has a write up here on how to do and effectively resumes your computer exactly as you put it to sleep.

The cause of the message is time drift between when the application was paused and the restart with the computer synchronising time to the atomic clock on the internet e.g.

Re: Does powering down lose work?

My computer constantly get's these messages, even if i don't reboot, suspend, hibernate - just leave it running overnight... Is there any need for a fix or should i just leave it and ignore all the messages?

As it stands, i'm not sure if this host is contributing ANYTHING to the program. I'd like to know if it actually is...

If you are sending in uploads and getting downloads, it is contributing work. Yes, many of us just leave things running overnight to generate as much as possible.

TheFunkSoulBrutha, check your Results Status page and filter it to only show work from the host you are concerned about. It should be obvious whether it is returning a reasonable amount of valid work, or whether it is sitting doing nothing.
