BOINC is not faster....same science, but as pointed out to you by Didactylos, it uses all the cores it is allowed to use and it buffers work meaning it starts the next job, whilst it is transmitting the finished one i.e. more efficient. The www.wcgwiki.org has a comparison of the 2 agent on the migration page.

2 items are not mentioned there: Throttle (CPU% and Graphics) which both now also available on BOINC.

The Taskmanager shows the % per core, which is often a percent of overall resource i.e. 50% on a dual core is 100% of 1 core.

UD agent by default runs 60% of 1core, seen as 30% in TM.

cheers

Re: Boinc faster?

Hello Robert Heikkinen,
BOINC and UD both run the science application. As such, they run at the same speed (more about this). However, BOINC can run more than one instance if there is more than one core. The UD client will only run one instance.
The BOINC Device Profile (Select My Grid - Device Profiles - [profile name]) allows you to set 'On multiprocessors, at most use: N processors'. By default N is 4. This can cause trouble on a hyperthreading Pentium IV with little memory since BOINC will start 2 instances by default.
The BOINC Device Profile also allows you to set a throttle on recent versions of BOINC by setting 'Use no more than: N % of processor time' to less than 100.
The UD client has a default throttle setting of 60%, which is useful for laptops with poor cooling but is not needed for most desktops. You can change the throttle setting to 100% (or any other value) by downloading http://worldcommunitygrid.org/files/WCGridMaxCPU.exe as explained in Start Here at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2683#61655
