I figured that this thread could be similar to threads that are up and running on other projects' fora, in which interesting science stories are posted to the relevant project's forum.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/04/070412141025.htm This story also has an interesting application to FA@H. See the 5th paragraph from top. Cheers! |

Posted by s060319 in other thread: "faster way in finding genomes"
----------------------------------------Hi all, I stumbled on the internet and I found this: https://sourceforge.net/projects/burstsort It's a new algorithm for sorting data. I don't know if it will help with the genome comparison project because the source code is not free and I couldn't find how the project searches through all these genes. It's probably not worthwhile to implement it in this release of genome comparison because it will be done in a few months but I thought it is worthwhile mentioning. [Jun 2, 2007 7:15:32 PM]

----------------------------------------No such thing as 'junk' DNA ? Looks like there is a lot more work to do. It seems those 'useless' DNA pieces are now found to be useful: "The genome turns out to be a highly complex, interwoven machine with very few inactive stretches, the researchers report." http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070614/ts_afp/s...u.C8i.66kCs2qSoPVwWGJhMgF ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by halfcard at Jun 14, 2007 10:01:01 PM]
