The agent on this machine produced results for the months of November, 2006 through roughly February 2007, some 28,000 points. But now it is not receiving any new work from the server. I have changed the default profile a couple of times just to see if the new settings would show up on the server. They have not. This installation has a dozen PC all configured identically for XP and the grid agent software. And some but not all machines are returning results just fine... and some, like this PC are not.
There have been periodic problems with the firewall, but those problems are fixed. Could this machine have been put on a "black list" due to those problems and hence not being contacted? Thanks |

That's not quite the way it works - the WCG servers never contact your computer, you have to wait for the agent on your computers to contact the servers.
Can you tell us the Device ID of the affected computers, and also whether there is a message such as "Paused" at the bottom of the agent screen? |

NorthfieldcacLKYW979 is the Device ID
and the message is "Agent is idle due to profile setting" At install back in November I left the Default profile alone so that the agent could connecdt/run all of the time. I then changed the Default agent to allow execution Monday thru Friday 6PM to 8AM the following morning and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Last week I changed the Default profile back to execution 24X7. But this change has not been reflected back on the server. I changed the Default profile to see if this would force communication with the server. The basic problem is that no work has been shipped to this PC since mid-February. Again, thanks for your help! |

The correct Device ID is: LKYW979 not NorthfieldcacLKYW979 as indicated in my last reply.

That would be your username. Click on "Preferences" (the checkmark icon) to view your Device ID. On the same page, it also shows you your current connect/work settings, so you can check whether your agent is supposed to be running or not.
Which projects have you selected to run? Your agent will get the changed profile when it communicates with the server - this is usually when it has just finished a work unit. Again, the preferences page will show whether the agent has picked up the new profile yet. |

I have selected the check box to participate in all projects.
My Preference page shows connection of Anytime and execution time of M-F 6PM to 8AM and Saturday and Sunday My Profile shows connection of Anytime and execution of 12 AM to 12 PM all seven days of the week. I changed back to this setting a couple of weeks ago... but, apparently it has not been transmitted back to the server. And no work has been sent to LKYW979 since mid-February. Seem to be caught in a Catch-22. Again, thanks for your help. |

According to this link (copy past whole line below to address bar)
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewCompareMembers.do?userNames[0].value=NorthfieldcacLKYW979 you have last returned a result on Feb.01'2007, not mid Feb. I just wonder if the device you look at is registered to the same name as the one you are now posting. To verify, open agent, go to preferences page (tick mark button) and click on the triangle left of 'modify device profile'. That should open up the website profile connected to that agent. That's the one to modify and save. After, restart the agent and see if the preferences copy over, together with a new work unit. Added: Is the name on the Agent Main page top right, identical as the name you post under?

It is working but I do not know why. And you are right, prior to this weekend the last result LKYW979 returned was Feb 1, not the middle of February.
On Friday morning before 8 AM I "unlocked" this PC (LKYW979)(Ctrl+ALT+Delete). And saw a message to the effect that a result was being returned to the server, quickly followed by a message showning the byte count of a new task being download. After the download Task Run Time started to increment. And I noticed that my Profile had been updated to connect all the time and execute all the time. (Previously the Profile had been connect all the time and exectute 6 PM to 8 AM Monday through Friday and all weekend). As indicated earlier in this stream of notes I had changed my Profile days ago. Other than unlocking the PC prior to 8 AM in the morning (usually would do this at 9 AM), I don't know of any change... and I keep a log of any and all changes to the servers or desktops/laptops. I'm glad it is working and continues to work regardless of: an MS "locking" of the device, MS logging off as a user, or shuting down and turning the device back on. Again, any insight is appreciated. Assuming it keeps working, I'll go back to a Profile that does not execute during working hours. |

If you needed to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to log in, then I think you are actually logged out. You don't need to use Ctrl-Alt-Del if you have just locked the screen (Win-L on XP).
The UD agent doesn't work while you are logged out. If you want to do that, you need to install BOINC as a service. |

The Alt+Ctrl+Delete is the results of this PC being defined to an MS server Domain (rather than being part of a workgroup). So the three finger solute is required regarless of the PC being turned off, logged off or locked.
All has been running well for the last couple of weeks, so while not understanding what fixed the problem, I'm considering it fixed. Again thanks for the help. |
