Ok I have a new DELL Vista PC that I loaded Boinc on and almost 50% of the results are coming back as error. What do I do to change this? I'm wasting a lot of CPU time.
Thanks in advance. |

Please will you show us the error log for one of the failed work units?
Go here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewBoincResults.do then click on the name of one of the results marked Error. If we can't help you, then the grid techs will take a closer look for you. |

Many have found un-installing then reinstalling BOINC to for instance C:\BOINC\ (or another partition like D:\BOINC\ resolving the problem of corrupted work. (Rom Walton of BOINC developers gave that also as a solution). Also tried by some and working is the 'Compatibility mode', like WXP. Using Windows Vista Compatibility Mode :: the How-To Geek cheers

Kevin, that one has been discussed in places and posted that registry fix here on the forum to set the shut-down delay to 20/40/60 seconds to prevent damage....someone at 40 still had issues, who than increased it to 60 and turned

This fix the problem - http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index.php?language=1&view=175 [revised based on Sekerob's comments below] Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. My PC stays on all the time(its my work PC and I let it run flat out at night) but I guess I need to watch when I need to reboot due to it hanging. I als need to search for the different error messages to see if the rest of the errors are the same problem. |

An alternative solution would be to manually tell BOINC to exit/shutdown before rebooting or shutting down. Then the work should be saved and the error avoided. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Exiting BOINC before Vista closure and a wait is observed of up to 1 minutes, that's fine. Vista closes in seconds so the word goes and would not know if the OS allows BOINC to finish it's disk-writing.

Vista closes in seconds so the word goes and would not know if the OS allows BOINC to finish it's disk-writing. As long as I close BOINC and wait til the disk activity light stops (ON THE VISTA MACHINE), it seems fine. But you'd think they would build in a save every so often so a power failure won't kill a workunit. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
