i have two computers. one is a laptop, one is a desktop. the laptop can get online easily, the desktop could but it would take a good deal of work (each time, not just one time). also, i am using my laptop most of the time, while my desktop usually just sites idly. so i was wondering if there is a way i could get my desktop involved w/o getting it online? (necessary specs on desktop: xp pro sp1 / amd xp 2000+ / 512mb pc3200/400mhz ram / 40 gb hdd / video? prolly don't matter but it's a nvidia geforce4 agp 4x.)

You will have to enable an internet connection from time to time for your desktop to participate. The Agent requires this connection so that it can send results of a work unit when completed and to obtain the next one to be worked on. While it is crunching the work unit, no internet connection is required and each of the units can take anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days to complete. If you can live with checking the system every now and then to see if a work unit has completed and then enable the connection, it can be used. There is no facility which would allow you to copy the files from one system to another to allow the exchange and I haven't seen anything to indicate that this is in the plans. |
