https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40838
----------------------------------------https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375927 Just a problem with Firefox, IE7 seems to behave fine. But a browser bug can take years to fix while a website can be fixed in a few days. Issue: Hovering over images (such as results in nothing in status bar unless half middle clicking1. Go to http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/index.jsp 2. Hover over blue strip. Actual Results: Nothing happens in Firefox To see where images link to, behavior is correct in IE7 http://www.dailytech.com/ This used to be a similar issue at this site, rather than wait for Mozilla (and their huge following) to fix the browser, they "fixed" the site. And apple.com If Apple can have a image toolbar that behaves nice on Firefox, I don't think a few tweaks to fix what Mozilla won't would hurt. == And I think there might be added complexity because there is some? js? to have the images change color over hovering. Yep, the Microsoft attitude when they introduced IE7.... millions of websites should adapt to their browser and not the browser adapting to the millions of websites.
----------------------------------------Now, did you start up Firefox, 2.0.0.3 of course, WITHOUT any extensions and are able to replicate? Is it a concern you cannot see the 5 or six links in the WCG forum header buttons, which always go to the same place? For an even quicker fix for an issue like this there are add-ins like Tippy, Alternate-Link Pop Up and few more like HOT IP which even gives the full link + the IP address and location the IP is geographically located while hovering the home button link. Of course for best safety you have loaded No-Script to prevent any undesirable script executions. Besides, obtain ASH (Automatic Statusbar Hide), which will do that until hovering in the neighbourhood or an alert situation occurs. Cant see it as a problem that warrants a programmer to spend 'a few days' to fix this (including the js added complexity speculation)..... try living with it until the next web site update is scheduled. That's my opinion, but others may differ. cheers

Well the many duplicates should indicate that many are also experiencing this across the web and that it is troublesome enough for them to register and report to Bugzilla. Opera 9.1 shows the link in the status bar but has funky behavior of having the correct "hand" cursor indicating clickable, but once dragged from one "image" link to another, is still clickable, but the pointer goes to plain.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25537 Notice how Nazi Mozilla was here on a rather trivial issue here (if no title tag, display alt feature for tooltips) yet on the previous bugs I linked to, seems to be a bug on their part, but also a bug on webmasters since they should be able to simplify their web design to not trigger this. https://labs.mozilla.com/ Notice at the top of the page (and nice colors too) hovering over Experiments/Discussions they can change images yet have status bar text also. === Cant see it as a problem that warrants a programmer to spend 'a few days' to fix this (including the js added complexity speculation)..... try living with it until the next web site update is scheduled. That's my opinion, but others may differ. cheers I can live with it, just acknowledging the problem. |

Sek, the bug's in Firefox.
Ironically, the WCG site was developed mainly in Firefox. Those extensions you suggest sound awful. But maybe that's just me. |

Is it a bug, or is it something expected by former IE users, not showing, therefore considered a bug? Was the forum software at the start developed on FFX by MVN?
----------------------------------------The sighted extensions (just 'awful sounding', but not as horrific as 'Nazi Mozilla'), do a superior job to show where you go there where the mouse is, and not requiring for the eye to wonder to the bottom of the screen.... again, that's my opinion.

"Was the forum software at the start developed on FFX by MVN?"
----------------------------------------What does that have to do with anything? I think Didactylos meant awful as in not user friendly, uselessness. And more extensions=more memory=less stable=no thanks. "Is it a bug, or is it something expected by former IE users, not showing, therefore considered a bug?" There are plans and patches to fix it on Mozilla's part, Opera is functioning kind of right with it (cursor issues). You mean it is WCG's intention to not have status bar text? Heh. === This is one image that the web designers used to simulate two images.http://labs.mozilla.com/wp-content/themes/ymozlabstheme/style.css I'm not much of an HTML guru, but analyzing the CSS ?source #header li.experiments a, #header li.experiments { width: 121px; background: transparent url(images/experiments_tab.gif) top left no-repeat; } #header li.experiments a:hover { background-position: 0 -47px; } body#experiments #header li.experiments a, body#experiments #header li.experiments a:hover, body#experiments #header li.experiments { background: transparent url(images/experiments_tab_current.gif) top left no-repeat; } So I'm thinking it says "when hovered, adjust the image to certain direction by x pixels". Seems nicer than js Just putting it out there so that WCG web people might get some inspiration. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 30, 2007 10:50:57 PM] |

Sekerob, it's "cite" not "sight". I know you can argue "sighted" is grammatically correct, but it's just not normal English. English is weird.... ;-)
jhtrico1850, CSS lets you do image swapping without resorting to messing around with offsets. The offset method only works on fixed size links. |

What is a "fixed size link" and what disqualifies the ones here from it if they are disqualified?
------------------------------------------ Please tell me why one would say "sighted'' in this context:) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 30, 2007 11:13:28 PM] |

width: 121px; - looks fixed to me :-)
Normal links are whatever size they need to be to fit the text in. I always think the simplest solution is best, so while the offset gimmick would work on the menubar, just swapping the image is simpler. Sekerob: the second time I go for what? I don't understand you. |
