Device Manager Web Interface confusing?

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewDevices.do
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewProfiles.do
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewStatisticsByDevice.do

They could basically all be on the same page.. Or at least the 1st two combined..

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewProfiles.do
On this page, I just discovered the "Reset All Devices To A Single Profile" thing. Why isn't it also on here? http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewDevices.do I was getting annoyed at starting out with UD then moving to BOINC and still having 2 profiles everytime I visited the Device Profiles. Also, "Reset All Devices To A Single Profile" is under the United Devices header, implying that it's only for reseting UD, but it can reset to all.

It seems from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewProfiles.do that UD can make unlimited profiles? BOINCers can only have 4? A typo

So. Merge at least two of them? (I guess this would break older versions? It already has the "no browser open" issue though).

"Reset All Devices To A Single Profile" should not be under the UD header.

Adding profiles seems limited with BOINC/WCG?

BOINC and UD profiles are profoundly different. BOINC has many more geeky details.

Re: Device Manager Web Interface confusing?

Devices and profiles are different. Confusing, but different.

The "Reset All Devices To A Single Profile" thing only affects UD devices. That's why it's under the UD heading. I tested it, just to be sure.

Your UD devices will be hidden after a while of not using them. The UD profiles will be kept, in case you ever go back to using UD. However, you can delete them manually if you are sure you won't be using them. Click on the profile name, then "delete" at the bottom.

And UD can indeed have unlimited profiles, and BOINC is limited to 4.

Is that okay, or do you disagree?

Re: Device Manager Web Interface confusing?

What does geeky details have to do with http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewDevices.do and http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewProfiles.do seemingly overlapping?

Or "Reset All Devices To A Single Profile" being under United Devices instead of something a little more universal looking.

Or adding profiles seems limited with BOINC/WCG but not with UD?WCG?

Re: Device Manager Web Interface confusing?

Ah, I see why you are confused. I'm guessing you have a single computer. This is shown twice on the Device page, once for BOINC, and once for UD, because you just switched (normally the old one is hidden).

Then you have two profiles shown on the profile page, seemingly just repeating the device information.

Am I right?

Okay, this is how it works. Normally, the Device page will list all your computers. A few lucky people have dozens to manage.

The Profile page shows all the profiles you have created. BOINC was designed just to have 4 named profiles. UD can have as many as you want. Then you can set your devices to use whatever profile is appropriate.

BOINC and UD profiles contain significantly different settings. BOINC settings can be quite complicated and (as Lawrence says) geeky.

You use the Profile page to create profiles, and the Device page to map computers to profiles.

Hope that clears things up for you.
