Re: Most CPU/PC friendly "established" distributed computing project?

Actually if you are this side of the ocean, with summertime, you have 5 hours left.... there's hope tongue

7 hours, and a computation error -_-

I did find this.. Hopefully setting it to 0.2 will have nicer WU's for me. 7% 6 min run 5 hours left??

Re: Most CPU/PC friendly "established" distributed computing project?

Back to your original question, there is no "computer-friendly" issue. The question is moot.

The main consideration is what % of CPU is being used, and I'm sure the other projects you mentioned are the same in this regard. The total length of time a work unit takes is not relevant.

Personally I DON'T think it's a good idea for you to be aborting work units just because you think "they take too long". Have you considered the possible effects on the WCG servers and the other crunchers?

The 'Connect To' value has absolute no effect of what work is send in terms of duration of jobs. The only place i know that can be selected is Rosetta, where one can tell in the profile to run for X hours attempts from different seeds.

If you set the profile to receive FAAH only, it will be work in the range of 6-8 CPU hours on a P4. If GC only, it will be work in the range of 1.5 to 3 CPU hours on the same P4..... it's not predictable. Some just compute much harder than others..... the slower the machine to longer it becomes.

Re: Most CPU/PC friendly "established" distributed computing project?

If I get invalid with a 2 hour WU, it's less painful than a 10 hour WU. Ever since changing my setting from 0.3 days to 0.2 days.. I've gotten 2 WU, one finished in 1.46 and another set to finish in 1.9 hours, as opposed to estimated 5 hours stretching into 10.. Maybe coincidence though.
