I have a vague memory about something else. Incidentally:

Do not suggest a more recent version of Windows

we have some remarkably similar feelings. But that is beside the point. If there is nothing useful in that thread, then thanks for trying.

I tried increasing the VM and rebooting. It crashed, but came up correctly. Alas, no change. I have it disabled for now, but will check back here for further suggestions...

Somebody somewhere in this Forum recommended to twiddle the virtual storage disk space a bit. Maybe its worth trying before quitting?

This repeated restart kind of behavior is almost certainly because you virtual memory is turned off or your paging file is too small to let Rosetta get started. Currently the software allocates over 200MB of memory even though the typical working set (the part of this that is actively being used most of the time) is only about 25MB.

Look at Control Panel->System->Advanced->Performance Options. Increase the maximum size of the paging file size by 300MB. This will probably solve your problem.

I'd earlier set it to 128MB but had no luck. I've just set it to 300 and rebooted. That did it. Thanx!
