I've restarted my PC and the grid agent hasn't opened up – I've gone to the shortcut on the programs file and it no longer points to the grid agent. The search function came up with nothing. In the WCG folder there are several .exe files with longer file names (such as ud_12980724.exe) – but the ud.exe file itself is absent.

You are the likely 'user' of Norton or Symantec AV..... visit this thread:

Thanks for the quick reply, Sek, I am indeed a Norton Security user, I'll go search out the quarantined file.

I did restore the quarantined file from within Norton – however ud.exe hasn't reappeared and the grid agent is therefore still not visible. I've restarted and instigated another full system scan. No doubt I'll be updating you on what happens.

No information from the further scan. I've downloaded another copy of the agent.

You need to set the Exception/Ignore rule for UD.exe in the AV software like mentioned in the other threads, else it will do the same all over again.
----------------------------------------Remove the exception, when its confirmed that Symantec has fixed it and you have received the AV updates.
