Re: Service Installation

It is a deliberate omission - the vast majority of users have no need for the service installation and we tried to remove as many screens as possible from the installation process.

We do however, need to update our FAQ's to point users to the version at Berkeley for those folks who do need a service installation.

Re: Service Installation

edit: The way to improve on both the WCG installer and the complicated BOINC installer will be to hide the complexity behind an "Advanced" button. Presenting the right degree of complexity at each level is the key to clean interface design.

Let's see if we can have functionality and usability. Yes, I want it all....

Re: Service Installation

If there is a strong interesting in the community to bring it back into the WCG installer then we will also do so. Please add your comments to this thread.

I'll add Didactylos to the yes column.

I agree, keep all options available in the WCG installer but hide the more complex under "Advanced".

Re: Service Installation

I agree with Didactylos, the "Advanced" button would be the best solution to keep a clean design. Add me to the people that want the return of alternative installations.

Re: Service Installation

Add me to the Yes column.

I don't think of myself as a particularly advanced user, but definitely prefer installing as a service as have the home PCs set up for multi-users (kids, etc.).

Re: Service Installation

My personal vote would be to have an advanced button to allow service installation.
