ISO Country Area Codes

Stolen from helpdesk.Rootsweb.com

Abbreviations: Country and Regional Locations
Abkürzungen: Land und regionale Positionen
省略: 国及び地方位置
요약: 나라와
지역 위치
Аббревиатуры: Страна и регионарные положения
Abréviations : Pays et endroits régionaux

The RootsWeb Surname List (RSL) and some mailing lists use standardized abbreviations to designate countries and other regional locations. This index, compiled by RootsWeb volunteers, is a collection of Canadian and United States postal codes, Chapman codes, three letter ISO codes for nations, Norwegian standard county codes, Swiss canton postal abbreviations, plus many abbreviations we invented for historic German and Austrian states and other areas.

Re: ISO Country Area Codes

Well for starters: If I was a nubie with WCG and wanted to enter my location I just might not know what to search for. In addition, If I did search I would first be looking at the How To's and could spot the "Country Codes" more easily than being buried in Suggestions/Feedback (prior to hitting on the search engine).
Huh ?

Re: ISO Country Area Codes

You must have mixed WCG up with something else. The country selector lists all countries (with a few noted exceptions) in full. There's no need for country codes.

Re: ISO Country Area Codes

How do I access the the country selector lists from here ? I went to my profile but it's just a manual input without any code selections. You can see here on my side frame the way I entered country, etc. Sort of like a catch all place.
.....edit add....
Excuse me, I misunderstood. OK, I see now said the blind person. I get it.
Thanks. smile

Re: ISO Country Area Codes

The country of the forum profile is free-form. The My Grid profile has a drop down list that Didactylos mentioned.
