SUSE BOINC Agent "no finished file" loop

I'm currently running BOINC on one of my SUSE Linux servers and it periodically seems to go into a loop and never recovers. The agent can run for a couple of hours or days without a problem and then this happens:

2007-03-10 09:43:50 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.4.11 for i686-pc-linux-gnu

2007-03-10 09:50:57 [---] Rescheduling CPU: application exited

I've found I can clear it by using the Detach_project and Attach_project but don't really want to do this. Any ideas?

sad Re: SUSE BOINC Agent "no finished file" loop

Thing is mine just keeps repeating every couple of seconds and never finishes. The log files keep cycling at around 2MB. Is there a way of stopping it after a number of tries?

Re: SUSE BOINC Agent "no finished file" loop

Hello MTavener,
If you have the BOINC Manager, you can tell it to abort the task. I do not know the command-line version of abort.

Re: SUSE BOINC Agent "no finished file" loop

Are u guys using the BOINC throttle (CPU resource limiter)? On Linux & Mac with HDC and FAAH it's a problem and per BOINC 5.8.16 still not completely fixed. Set to 100% in your Web site Device Profile, hit update in the projects tab and see if it goes away.

The zero exit message in itself is not a problem if happeneing every few hours.... resetting just looses u the job in progress and downloads the jobs you had in queue, not yet started.

If not the solution, check back.

Thanks.

I'm now running a different profile with 100% CPU and I've reset the project using "-reset_project URL" and I get the following.

So after reloading the project it loops again. Funny thing is if I "detach" and "reattach" I know it will work fine again for a while.

Re: SUSE BOINC Agent "no finished file" loop

@MTavener, please work thru the 'Issue?' in the link below.

Cycling every few seconds can be several things like security, but also hardware.

@Muckshifter, as outlined earlier, the zero status can occur every once in a while. Your log is showing it every few hours..... occasionally got the same myself but the jobs still getting validated..... you need to check the Result Status page if jobs 'error' or are 'invalid' that finished with 'Reporting 1 tasks'. Resetting the project is really when things are seriously mucked up. Same goes for u... work thru the 'Issue?' page in link below and see if a light comes on.

Hello MTavener,
If you have the BOINC Manager, you can tell it to abort the task. I do not know the command-line version of abort.

Re: SUSE BOINC Agent "no finished file" loop

This is a clean install of XP, last night.

Since you are getting the message every 2:58:58, it appears to be a time sync causing it.

I used to get it every 3:58:58 due to the fact that my XP install doesn't keep accurate time while running the CPU at 100%. I had disabled the built-in Windows internet time sync function, so XP was checking the CMOS time approximately every 4 hours and correcting itself. It would be over a minute fast and since BOINC doesn't like any backwards adjustment more than 30 seconds it was causing this message.

My fix was to set up another XP machine that keeps accurate time as a time server using AnalogX's program, give that PC a static IP, then re-enable the internet time sync on the problem PC and point it to the local time server PC with a resync time of 15 minutes. If you have dependable internet service, you can skip the AnalogX program and just use an internet atomic clock to sync with. My internet service is slightly dodgy, so I decided to use a local server.

Instructions from MicroSoft for setting up Windows internet time sync: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314054

AnalogX's program: http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/ats.htm
