I don't think the BC'ers would have me in their ranks as I've only got one lowly PC that's on for a couple of hours per day to contribute. We just let ours run. It takes more messing around, power surges and disk drive thrashing to actually boot them up. Screensaver is set to (none). Three of the computers are on the same KVM switch, so I only need one monitor/keyboard/mouse. The energy saving features of the two required monitors are set to turn them off after about 15 minutes, so that saves a lot of power right there.

Evening.......
Like Guru said anyone that crunches is welcome. And running during the summer can be expensive, but during the winter it's Distributed Heating. On a side note, anyone else having problems getting work. I've 2 rigs that have been in starvation mode for almost 12 hours per day, running bionic. Rick |

Evening....... I assume that you have your project list set to take any other work if your primary project runs out.Like Guru said anyone that crunches is welcome. And running during the summer can be expensive, but during the winter it's Distributed Heating. On a side note, anyone else having problems getting work. I've 2 rigs that have been in starvation mode for almost 12 hours per day, running bionic. Rick The default queue length is only a couple of hours. It's not enough work to last if there's a problem. I've goosed mine up to 2-3 days. They had a couple of glitches with database restores and work regenerations this week, that DID cause a couple of minor problems. With a decent queue length, I haven't had any problems at all over the long term.

Restof, I've mine set about the same as yours. The odd thing is the rigs in question are in two different locations with different connections. The issue also involves sending work back. So I get some, and then the queue is finished, and can't get anymore. I do have them set to run any WCG project at the moment, guess I could add Proteins back into the mix.
Could be time for a good ol bounce and reconnect. Thanks for your suggestions Rick |

Have you had any error units? (bad memory or excessive overclocking are common causes) If you have had some crappy ones, it will reduce the quota, totally clear the queue and sulk before it sends more.
----------------------------------------Have you had any messages "work could not be sent because of whatever" or too soon after user request, no work could be sent" kind of thing. As long as the "send other" box is checked, it should not be a problem. I'm doing 100% genome comparison because they have very short workunits ... kicks up the result count. They ran out last week because they were reinitializing something, and I got a couple of HPF workunits. The check box was working. I have also found that when I am running multiple programs, like WCG, Seti, malaria control, chess960, etc. etc. at once, it doesn't always manage the queue very well. If your queue has been small, it sometimes has to stay connected for awhile before WCG decides to download something.

I've had 1 error unit about 2 weeks ago, but nothing since. I do see a great number of Https errors, and no work to send messages. I've rebooted, and will see what happens in the morning.............. The only thing running ATM is WCG.

Assuming BOINC .. you might post something in the BOINC support area so the other guys could see this. The HTTPS errors sound suspicious. That may be what is keeping the queue empty ... if nothing can fill it up... a few relevant BOINC messages might also be useful.I assume that the firewall will allow the HPPS processing. I have to tell that to Zone Alarm if it downloads a new version.
