I think it would be cool if the individual project stat pages had graphs like the global stats page (so we could see how the projects are increasing in results/run time/etc).

Hi esoteric17,
----------------------------------------Believe it or not but it's on the CA 2007 wish list to also have a history like the global stats on the project pages.

It would be cool if the envisaged project stat page could also include some indication of the project's completion rate, e.g. not only the number of completed WU, or allocated points, but a percentage of how much of the project's target has already been achieved.
It would be even better is this could be expressed in a way meaninigful to the particular project, like 'x zillions of candidate drug molecules already tested, y zillions left to go. Estimate Completion Date: zzz'. |

Estimate Completion Date: zzz'. Both are a responsibility of the project scientists to maintain on their progress web pages. The links are provided on the respective projects research page Often times discussed, it's very hard to give a percent progress because the scope is changed, work is added, duration to compute work units extend and shrink. GC progress is an exception with a very exact defined body of work, but the scientist might add as more genes become available to compare from other scientific work added to reference libraries.

I don't see how progress measured being the responsibilty of the scientists makes it any harder to have global stats as opposed to individual project stats.. If they were 30% wrong before, they'll still be 30% wrong.. Sure to a wider audience, but less link digging, more convenience,=

There is no intend to imply that the progress % would stop an adding of graphs to the project pages same as Global stats. As said it's on the wish-list for the revamp of the statistics pages in 2007.
----------------------------------------The progress % itself is different problem. Personally, i dont see that is going to happen anytime soon.... which is why a few and me stick the finger in the air and collate the info in for instance the below linked pie chart. Take it with a grain of salt, but would not present them if considered wholly false.

Like Sek said: project % complete is a moving target. It's misleading, too, since WCG always has more work. Also, many projects move on to new phases. After HPF came HPF2. FAAH now has 6 experiments running or completed. GC is in phase 1, with a planned phase 2. With all these moving targets (and the amount of work changes frequently even within a phase) it would be totally misleading (and loads of work) to try to give an overall % complete. It would be like the Microsoft minute: constantly resetting. Nobody likes a progress meter that goes backwards.
Better that WCG say "yes, we've got work for this year, and we're busy lining up work for next year and beyond". Let the project scientists break things down. FAAH are doing a fairly good job now, even if they don't update very often. They are showing progress on all 6 of their experiments, and a bucketload of other information. |
