Is it not possible to have a front page field (in several languages) default English, that asks one to select a language for viewing? The selection would then send the user a page in their selected language if available if not than in default English with a request for translation and URL to AltaVista - Babel Fish.
....I believe we would get a lot more crunchers if we are a little more friendly on the onset of a person's curiosity about WCG. Plus, a show on how to (in severl Lang's) get information in one's own natural language (via translation services). |

As for the selector - it's there right hand top - and offering a front page, there is an ability i know of to sense the preferred language of the browser(?). That could be used to bring up the right front page. If set as different language, maybe in the member profile, the website could assume the available language or default back to English upon log-in, removing dependency e.g. on cookies.
----------------------------------------It's sometimes an irritating thing though... certain websites just default you back to the local language, regardless what the desired choice is. One is notorious..... want to search in English, but it always comes back to Italian. oh well, cant have it all

As for the selector - it's there right hand top - and offering a front page, ..... One is notorious..... want to search in English, but it always comes back to Italian. I sure did miss that button but there are only two lang's English and French. What happened to that fellow from Russia ? Also the fellow from Brazil ? Can you find their email and send an invitation for translation --- at least the front page will do well. Once in a while I rove around talking in Greek mixed with Nipon but I couldn't find the Italian although I looked hard. The "h" is still here, I must have scared it off a while back. :>) - oh well, cant have it all shock [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 28, 2007 10:08:06 PM] |
