My second mac comes in next week and need some tips on joining the two together so the number of devices show 2 instead of one. Do I add them before it starts crunching or after my first return? Do I use the same name as my first one? Is this easy to do or is there a special way of doing this? Never did this before so don't want to screw this up. tnks

This is a walk in the park...
Just attach with the same username, and WCG will create a new device automatically. |

This is a walk in the park... Just attach with the same username, and WCG will create a new device automatically. Hello Didactylos, Can I remove a device which is already non-existent? I have three devices registered at WCG right now but only one device is really crunching. The other devices are already inactive for more than a month and they won't be active again. I would want that only one device be shown on my stats. cio_redulla ![]() |

Hello cio_redulla,
No. We have requested that the stats be revised to differentiate between active devices and inactive devices (installations) but there are a lot of other things with higher priority being worked on. I expect that this will be scheduled on the work list someday, but right now it is just an irritating bug to be endured. Lawrence |

Forgot to ask, will I be able to see works units stats for each computer or will they be combined?

Device Manager has a sub category 'Device Statistics', no different from the UD Agent, in fact all the devices active in the last 14 days are listed with an expansion view available to see those active over different time ranges.

Sounds good. A few more questions before I turn it on.
----------------------------------------1. Does each machine have a unique name or ID to distinquish between them? 2. When returning results, is it better to do one at a time or can they both at the same time? Thanks for the help. Randy

Yes. By default the Device is named with that what your computer is called, so if particular, first go into the system control panel and give it a pet name or something and boot, than register the devices. With UD agent, u can rename them afterwards. With BOINC u can not.
----------------------------------------UD and BOINC run on different servers, if that's what u mean. You can send as many as u like in one session. It's sequential and at 2000000 workunits per day, WCG should easily be able to handle many per second. BOINC is multicore, UD is not, so there is no point in running UD and BOINC side by side. Also, Human Proteome Folding on UD does not work well together with BOINC... latter will basically starve the former. This concludes the Q&A for u :P ciao

Hello Bearcat,
1. Does each machine have a unique name or ID to distinquish between them? Yes, but the Device Name listed by the Device Statistics does not need to be unique. It is for use by humans. The server uses a different ID. You can see it in the UD client by clicking on the icon in the systray. For BOINC, bring up BOINC Manager and click on the Messages tab, then read the beginning of the Messages section, which identifies the computer and describes it. 2. When returning results, is it better to do one at a time or can they both at the same time? Doesn't matter. Return them in any order. Results contain an identifier. Lawrence |
