The United States government has imposed sanctions on specific countries, restricting transactions with those nations. Since World Community Grid is hosted in the United States, these restrictions apply.
Found this on admin forurm. They have got to be kidding. How will they even control this? By ip network ranges by providers? Seems very silly. Are they talking about running the agent software or sharing the results? Any comments please. |

Big Brother IS WATCHING and just like Santa Claus taking note. How are any laws enforced? It is almost impossible to go after everyone but they don't need too, they go after one or two they know they can nail and let the publicity and the subsequent fear do the rest .

For what it's worth, there is another thread on this topic at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1070
Probably best to continue the discussion in that thread than to continue independently in this one, that way the comments are consolidated in one place |

By ip network ranges by providers? Seems very silly. Probably by network ranges / ip numbers via some kind of traceroute. And yes, I'm just guessing, and yes, it is quite silly and excessive. Are they talking about running the agent software or sharing the results? Any comments please. Lets hope that results are allowed to be published and shared internationally. Our beloved US government is being foolish. This project is pure science, utterly lacking in any military value whatsoever. If someone in, say, Cuba wants to devote idle time on thier machines to this project, they should be allowed to do so. Computer time is computer time, regardless of country of origin. IBM has facilities all over the world, one would think it would be a fairly trivial matter to move this project to a less politically polarized location so that everyone, regardless of the stupidity of thier local government, may participate, allowing the World Community Grid to truly live up to its name. |

I think results will be publicly released but it's just this project that is not allowed to put these countrys into there stats systems cause then something referres to them. Normally somebody from Cuba can just sent in results, do everything on the site but just can't join his/here country because it isn't listed.
(Maybe this topic has go to move to the discussion forum?) |
