Controlling amount of memory

I know there is a way to control the amount of disk space UD takes, but is there also a way to control the amount of memory it uses? I don't want anything more than 50 MB being used.

Re: Controlling amount of memory

No! Each project has it's specified minimum RAM needs. Part of the calculation model is stored in virtual memory, usually the part not worked on. The reason is, that if a too large part would be in VM, the disk swapping would slow down the machine to the point where it becomes impossible to access the computer for normal use. 50mb is really nothing on a 512mb or 1gb machine.

U can set your machine to just do Genome Comparison and Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy. They use just 10/20mb RAM, at most. FightAIDS@Home needs about 128mb (on BOINC), though 250mb minimum was specified.

Re: Controlling amount of memory

If your machine has motherboard graphics, the graphics memory (64mb, 128mb, 256mb or whatever) is subtracted from main memory.

It can be a setback if your machine does not have much main memory.

Adding a graphics card with its own graphics memory means that the previous system memory dedicated to graphics will be returned to main memory.

One can always install more memory in addition to that.

Two machines here have 1.5Mb in addition to a graphics card and another has 3.0Mb in addition to a graphics card.

Re: Controlling amount of memory

I'd like the team to address this.

In the last few days, the WCgrid program seems to have increased its memory usage, its currently using 365K (Cancer running right now) and my PC is having performance and disk swapping problems.

Can this be entered as a formal request please?
