Hello all!
My name is Björn and I have been running a client called fightaids@home and I just recently switched to a new client which is called: fightcancer@home and I can't get it to work!  I have logged in to my profile at the world community grid and I've changed so that the client will be using fightcancer@home instead of fightaids@home but it still insists on using my old preferences with fightaids@home. How can fix this? I don't understand! |

before you specify on a project, you'll better check the miminum system requierments, maybe this will be the problem here...
would you mind to post your system-info like RAM-memory etc. greets |

Hi khelben1979 and welcome to the forum
----------------------------------------When u talk of FightCancer@Home, presume u have selected Help Defeat Cancer in your device profile and saved it. If u have attached the computer to the profile in Device Manager, again saved it, u should be seeing that profile name on next contact (sending result of current work, retrieving new work) in the 'V' screen of your UD agent. Does your machine meet the System Requirement ? If it does not, u wont get HDC work. In that case, when u see the new profile in the 'V' screen, you'll get most likely a 'Paused Agent' type message. As Help Defeat Cancer occasionally runs low on work, suggest u also tick a second project in your profile. e.g. Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy, which is set at a low weight i.e. 9 out of 10 would be Cancer work, but if none is available you'd get HCMD in place. let us know

My computer meets the system requirements.
Computer: Pentium4 with 2.8ghz, 1gig RAM, WindowsXP Graphiccard: nVidia Geforce7800GS, 256MB DDR3 Harddisks: 80gig WD P-ATA, 320gig WD S-ATA Could it be that it takes some days before my new settings is starting to take effect?? Is it possible?? :-/ Anyway, fightaids@home is still working but I have decided to ONLY run fightcancer@home for a while to test this new client and get some points with it. Björn |

Could it be that it takes some days before my new settings is starting to take effect?? Is it possible?? :-/ Björn See my answer above..... if properly associated, the profile should show up in your agent the next time work is retrieved.

Hello Khelben1979,
Yesterday, there were 22,025 results returned for Help Defeat Cancer ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProject.do?projectShortName=hdc ). Since a result normally only takes 5 hours to compute, this means that we can handle work faster than the scientists can scan the tissue biopsy slides and prepare the resulting image files. So, when you select Help Defeat Cancer as your main project, it is a good idea to also check "If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project (this option only applies to BOINC agents)." if you are running BOINC. If you are running UD, then this advice applies: "Please note: Some projects may occasionally have periods where no work is available. If you choose to receive work for only one project, the project may, at times, not have work units available for download. For this reason, we recommend that you select more than one project." Okay, thanks for the reply!
I have for a few hours ago changed my preferences online in my profile that the grid client should both use fightaids@home and fightcancer@home but the graphical client seems to be uneffected by my changes which I do at the homepage. It feels strange! But.. hmm, can I use my Boinc program so that this uses fightcancer@home instead? I need to know what url I should type down in the Boinc client if this works! Björn |

When I entered the url in the Boinc client
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org and then I typed in my user identification and my password but I'm unable to login and I don't understand why! Hmm...... Feels strange. |

If u go to the Projects tab in BOINC does it show World Community Grid? If so, no need to attach it again. When you changed your profile, the only thing needing done is hit the Update button and u should be all set.
----------------------------------------BTW, u confused me when you initially wrote that u created a FightCancer@Home profile. That would only be possible with the UD agent. BOINC has 4 standard named profiles, Default, School, Work, Home. IOn each of these u can select which projects u want to ran. Then u need to associate in the device manager the computer with the profile is is by standard 'Default'. The Cancer projects name officially is Help Defeat Cancer. If u have a mix of FightingAids@Home and Help Defeat Cancer, u well get about 1 Cancer work Unit on 9 AIDS, because of the formers short supply. cheers
