There won't be much, if any, tech support with this version. -brink |

I see that now and then, even on standard Windows 5.4.11 BOINC. Downloads are especially sensitive to dropouts and loss of connection on dial-up.
----------------------------------------After several retries, the download works most of the time. If not, simply abort it and get another one.

The Compression and 'Zipping' of files during transfer is only used for Genome Comparison project running under BOINC. It's the plan that all projects will eventually transmit using this technology to
----------------------------------------A. make the files smaller for dial-up clients who are more susceptible to errors in transmission and B. build an end of file hash code in, to ensure that the file was complete and integer. Presently on dial up I've had it once and aborted the file after multiple attempts. It did show up as an error in my Result Status report.

Not that it helps much, but I'm presently running BOINC 5.8.0 on all my systems flawlessly. I was running a large batch on 5.7.5, without major troubles. However, I'm either on a large pipe (work) or high speed (home).
I could not imagine using dial-up, especially for the larger HDC work units. |

Hmm, for some strange reason WCG is claiming the wu-files for fcg1 is zero bytes...
----------------------------------------Before starting any download, BOINC-client always checks if a file with correct name and size is already present, and if yes, checks MD5 or digital signature. If MD5/signature correct no download is done, and if wrong, the file should be deleted and tried downloaded. So, atleast in this instance getting "MD5 check failed" is not a problem, and will happen on all BOINC-clients regardless of version, if 1st. download-attempt fails so you've got a zero-sized file when 2nd. connection-attempt happens... Any failed connections on the other hand can be a problem, but hopefully not due to v5.8.0... ![]() "I make so many mistakes. Regarding the ' regardless of version', no one with a BOINC client < 5.4 will get a GC work unit as they don't have the compression feature. As for the zero file size (the 2 parts of a complete GC WU being compared), noticed that when files are queued in the download tab, the file size is not known, thus no progress percent can be provided (5.7.5 and 5.8.0). Wonder if the file size could be added, so the (dial up) members know what's coming?
