Ever since it's release the client hasn't worked on AMD64 with WinXP SP2. I stopped trying to use it a week after it's release and now I decided to give it another chance (new version etc...)
----------------------------------------Still NOTHING!!! . What is this? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 22, 2004 11:59:54 AM] |

----------------------------------------This is the last thread I saw with Rick's comments. Does not appear that 64 bits will be supported in the near future. https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=823#3528 <dataman> ![]() |

No offence, butI said I am running Windows XP SP2. That's a 32-bit OS and the AMD64 natively supports 32-bit instructions. I don't get it why it wouldn't work.

----------------------------------------None taken. There has been so much buzz on the 64 bit that I did not read your post correctly. My appology. I have no new information that is not in your other threads but perhaps one of the grid admin's can respond. <dataman> ![]() |

Thardin, I have read through your posts and it is a complete puzzle to me. It sounds as though you have a setup similar to Rick Alther's (Athlon64). The last time I heard of a problem that sounded like yours it was TaoWarrior. I suggested that he uninstall . reinstall under a new login. He did, and it made no diffeence. Then he moved his machine to his office and it suddenly started working so he decided that he had a router problem. Sorry that I have no bright ideas, but for the record - just what internet security programs do you have running?

----------------------------------------I think your problem may lie in a feature called DEP (Data Execution Prevention) Designed to stop malicious code from taking control of your PC. The software on your pc has to be updated to work alongside this feature, it may be that the WCG Agent hasn't yet been updated to work with DEP that may be why it doesn't run with your Athlon 64 setup. Only the Athlon 64 supports this feature and only on certain motherboards from memory I think the nforce3 mothrboards have this feature, it's called NX. It is enabled/deployed when you install XP service pack 2. Don't quote me on it - yet, unless it works It maybe possible to disable this feature in your bios. According to the Official XP magazine, I've yet to have hands on experience of this new fangled technology, you should have an entry in your BOOT.INI file called /NoExecute the value to turn of the NX DEP feature (don't you just love TLA's) should be changed from /NoExecute=OptIn to /NoExecute=AlwaysOff This should cure any incompatability issues with programs on your cool 64 bit setup. Post back if this is a winner Regards Dave ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Dec 22, 2004 12:01:10 AM] |

It might be even simpler than that if you go into control panel and click on system click on the advanced tab and you should see the following. Click on the "performance" settings button and you will see a
----------------------------------------Date Execution protection tab. If you set it like it is in the display. The agent should run. As you can see I've got old hat technology and my mobo doesn't support this "feature" ![]() Regards Dave ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Dec 22, 2004 12:12:59 AM] |

I just don't know what it is. It still doesn't work.
I have EDP to apply only to windows apps etc. And restarted my pc I completely opened ports 80 and 443 on my router to my computer. The agent downloads a WU fine, but doesn't proces it (no task is executing), after that it tries to send the results to the server and after a while I get the agent pause see .../cause.html. Again and again and again... I have just no idea what it could be... Just turned McAffee off and it works now...strange. Will install a different AV. |
