<----- "Edit" Message icon in forum

There's a little paper and pen icon to click on to edit a message.
It has been confusing for some. Why?

The word "edit" beside it is written in white. On a light gray message background, it is barely visible. On a white message background it is invisible.

Perhaps that word should be changed to a different color, say black, for optimum visibility.

Re: <----- "Edit" Message icon in forum

Thank you for pointing this out. I've been wondering for some time how in the world people are editing their own messages. I've not been able to see the text "edit" either until you "pointed" to it. Please change the text color.

On my screen, I cannot see 'Edit' at all. Just the pen icon. This definitely needs changing.

Re: <----- "Edit" Message icon in forum

Currently people have to learn to click on that icon itself to edit a message, but the other day the moon was new and the tide was out. The descriptive word edit finally jumped out at me from ghostland.

Here's how it looks on a gray background between the arrows...bolded and larger

--->edit<---

Once you know what to look for, you might spot the tiny word I found to the right of the icon, on the gray background message.

I'll add some color, in case of crappo monitors.

--->edit<---

Another clue for the administrators. If you click on the icon to edit a message, a dotted rectangle includes the white word "edit" to the right of the icon.

Re: <----- "Edit" Message icon in forum

Here in the UK the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB) have been doing a lot of work on making websites (as well as other software and printed material) more easily accessible to users with impaired vision.

A comprehensive set of guidelines for best practice has been compiled and is about to be made available to designers. One of the points argued strongly is that a website that is easy to use by a person with impaired vision will also be easy to use by a person with normal sight. The reverse is not the case. The example of foreground and background colours being the same (or nearly the same) is explicitly mentioned several times.

For more information follow this link: RNIB Web Accessibility Home

Re: <----- "Edit" Message icon in forum

The "edit" white color is probably just a mistake.

As long as I'm noticing, the navigation of the RNIB site itself would be fairly hard to figure out for a blind person using a text or voice browser, because of the complex frames/tables. If somebody had to read one of those pages to me, I would have no idea where I was.

Contrast of the foreground/background colors is mentioned, but there's always the matter of color blindness.

Red and green colors for the most common red/green colorblind person would be rendered in close shades of gray/grey (contrast=0 in some cases).

Eyeeewwwww.... There aren't any metasearch words in the top of the page on their web source either to clue in the web spiders. I could go on and on. A few properly chosen words could direct a blind Googler to a particular page on the site. Well, maybe not in this case.

Here's a good page about color blind colors, plus other links.

http://www.visibone.com/colorblind/

There are also other types of color blindness.
