Why so few results?

Hi all,

With just 78 results yesterday it seems as though this project is seeing very few results, any particular reason for this you think?

Have we reached the point where the number of projects to be worked on is noticeably slowing the progress of each project?

Re: Why so few results?

There was a little problem with that project and the project was suspended.
This is probably the reason.
See the thread http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=10702

Now, it has been repared.
May be it will go quicker with more and more results per day.

Re: Why so few results?

Hello AustraliaBlue,

I don't think I've received a single HCMD work unit although I have eighteen machines capable of accepting them. At present they all seem to be getting HPF2 work units exclusively, apart from one machine (the only one meeting the minimum requirements) that gets a fair number of HDC tasks.

As an experiment I have just modified the device profiles to request only HCMD work so I'll see what happens during the course of today.

David.

(Later). Well, having knocked HPF2 out of my device profile I have started getting HCMD work. Perhaps one of the techs will comment in due course.

David.

Re: Why so few results?

Hello all,

One of the reasons for there being few results on HCMD at the moment is due to the project being suspended for a short period of time. The other reason is due to it being scheduled at a low priority from our servers. We have set it this way to make sure that the science application is working properly before unleashing the power of World Community Grid on it. Members can select to run the project only using "My Projects" if they wanted to make sure they receive an HCMD work unit.

I hope this helps explain why the small number returns.

Re: Why so few results?

Thanks uplinger,

It does indeed. I didn't realise you prioritised projects in this way, although that was clearly the effect I observed.

Re: Why so few results?

Just to bump, u need to manually add HCMD to your UD agent device profile to contribute to this project. So far 5,342 units were done and 642 yesterday without any error reporting coming thru this last week, so it seems save.

If you have checked "Participate in All Projects", you are automatically signed up for HCMD and don't need to do anything. Only if you have unchecked "Participate in All Projects" will you need to manually select the project.

There are a couple of reasons for the small number of results:
* The project was turned off for a period of time due to a bug.
* There are currently 5 projects running, which will dilute the results for all projects.

Re: Why so few results?

Rick,

dont know what weight HCMD was set at and seem to have read it was low, but 642 units a day is pathetic compared to the 10 / 20 thousand and more, other projects are doing. Thus, was the auto-add to the 'all projects' members really run or is it an open procedure to be run?

cheers

Re: Why so few results?

I recall the plan was to set the weight very low until the staff get back in the New Year, just in case the initial launch uncovers any problems that didn't emerge in testing. This is because (unlike BOINC) UD doesn't have a beta test setup.

Yes, people who have "Participate in All Projects" checked will be automatically signed up for HCMD.
