I receive a new unit from proteome folding 2. My computer works one hour and calculate 7 % of this unit. I stop it and restart : the work start again from 0 % : why ? This is not very encouraging ! Other times there is no problems .

Why do you stop it and re-start? Why not leave it going? What seems to be the problem? 7% after one hour sounds fine to me.

Other times there is no problems . Checkpointing on HPF2 occurs after each structure attempt. If you look at the graphics, you can see how far along an attempt is. When the linear graphs reach the end of the X axis, the structure attempt is complete and a checkpoint occurs. HPF2 is a very computationally intensive application and can take a while to do each attempt. If you are running with the default CPU throttle, it'll take almost twice as long. You may want to increase the CPU throttle to make the work go faster if your CPU temperature is good. Increasing the CPU throttle will have no impact on your machine other than perhaps increasing the CPU temperature.

How about HPF2 checkpoint on BOINC? the graphic on BOINC does't show linear graph... ![]() |

Have posted a query this morning on the matter with the technicians how to read this on the BOINC version of HPF2 graphics.
----------------------------------------cheers Added: Sample so we all can see how it looks at present:

Sekerob, in my graphics for HPF2 i have never seen anything in the 'window' showing the actual protein folding. I have all the left hand side number information and all my results have been valid with no errors so I know it is crunching. I'm not really whining lol and I can live without the coool graphics. Just wondering. Oh, it has been like that since I upgraded to 5.8.8.

Diana G. recollect from a beta test and someone not seeing certain parts that the display drivers were not up to snuff (it's on that new questionnaire u saw ;O). Do you run 800x600 minimum resolution? The 'Window' has to me much more refinement in the rotating graphics and all, than the UD version below. The zero 'obvious' checkpoint indication is awaiting a reply.
----------------------------------------edit: the usual spelling corrections... sigh

@ Diane G.
----------------------------------------Could u please edit the copy of the picture out of your reply.... thanks @ All There currently is no visual indicator in the BOINC graphics of HPF2 to mark a checkpoint. The only present tip is to activate the recording of checkpoints thru a pointer included in this post: Project Checkpoint Saving - How to Minimize Progress Loss on Close/Restart per a partial post of knreed: ...... It is the <task_debug> flag. Just make sure you have your throttle set at 100% otherwise you will get a ton of output. thanks, Kevin

To further update, the below quote indicates that we get what we ask for (if possible).... per note of knreed:
----------------------------------------"David just added the code to log just checkpointing. Should be in the next 5.8 build." Per the CVS log the key to use in the CC_config.xml would be "David 22 Feb 2007 - add <checkpoint_debug> message flag; shows when apps checkpoint" NB: David (Anderson) is the chief developer of BOINC. The next 5.8 build would be than 5.8.16 or subsequent.... use anything after the endorsed 5.8.11 at own risk until declared 'Recommended'
