confused Macbook CPU usage issue

I'm having a bit of trouble. When I downloaded and installed the UD windows clinet on my desktop, I had no problem. It runs and uses about 23% of the CPU, and doesn't interfere with anything.

However, I then went to download and install the BOINC agent, and nothing I change in my preferences seems to be effecting the fact that the task it downloads and runs ends up using between 88% and 99% of one of my Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which is just a bit too much.

I'm running a macbook with Mac OS 10.4.8, 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

In the device profile, i've got:
Weight: 20
Use at most 1 processor.
Use no more than 20% total disk space
Use no more than 20% total virtual memory

They're all so low cause i've just been trying everything to get the CPU usage down, and so far its had no effect.. except for limiting it to 1 processor.. because when it was 2, it would run 2 tasks and each would be using 88-99%..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Macbook CPU usage issue

Only the alpha's from 5.7 up have a 'throttle' feature like UD agent, that allows to set the percent of use..... it's not mature yet, so use at own risk.

Alternate, if u choose 1 CPU in the Web Profile like u already tried, it would only use 50% of your CPU..... i.e. run 1 task at the time.
