bblover, Wonderful news. I decided to contact IBM--we must find a way to dispel the myths that are causing people to hold back. Here is my email to IBM:
Let me start off with my conclusion, that is, we desperately need a major PR push on WCG and dispel the fear of the unknown. I strongly believe that this humanitarian effort is one of the most important developments of the 21st Century. I'm blown away that the equivalent of 67,000 years of research was provided (in two years) by concerned citizens just by allowing access to their computers when in an idle state. I am proud to be part of this humanitarian effort that has already produced proven results. In one month of membership, I'm delighted to report that I have accumulated 76,000 points (261 results). Unfortunately, getting the word out to this "no-brainer" is frustrating. I have personally reached 3,000 people--one taker. I have contacted a college student to help my campaign by creating a university team. And I have created a comprehensive "All you wanted to know about WCG and then some" and sent it to a corporate friend (I'm a retired CEO) who has the potential to reach 20,000 employees with a good marketing campaign. I spend a huge period of time (15 hrs/day) on the computer and teach it to seniors as a volunteer for SeniorNet, one of your newer partners. The obstacles are quite obvious: Security paranoia, concern over wearing out one's computer, and fear that one's computer will slow down. All are myths and IBM, its sponsors and its partners, IMHO, must wage a cohesive media campaign. KUDOS to IBM for this humanitarian contribution to World Health! |
