For over 24 hours, one of my machines has not been able to download new work from the project servers:
12/4/2006 3:10:24 PM|World Community Grid|MD5 check failed for fcg1.10000422.faa (Note: I have the machine set to work on the "Genome Comparison" and "Human Proteome Folding 2" projects.) This machine has been communicating fine for weeks now, and I didn't change anything on this machine. I have two other computers on the same network that are still communicating fine - they have each submitted and received several work units over the last 24 hours. The good news is that it was able to report work completed: 12/3/2006 9:16:11 PM|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi And then three minutes later it gave the same type of error messages that I listed above. I have rebooted the computer, I have stopped and restarted the BOINC Manager, and nothing seems to work. Does anyone know what is wrong and/or how to fix it? I am running BOINC Manager version 5.4.11 on a Win2K SP4 machine. |

Thanks for the pointer. I aborted each of the tasks that were waiting for the downloads, and then aborted each of the downloads. BOINC then pulled down new work. While this worked, it still doesn't explain/fix the root cause of the problem. For example, I travel. If this had happened while I was out of town, I wouldn't have known about it or been able to resolve it. Per the other thread, others have been having this problem also. How feasible is it to find and fix the root cause so that it doesn't happen again? If the developers need more info, I would be glad to send them log files, etc. to help out.

Root Cause will be hard to fathom. Flunky unzip routine whilst memory was in disarray.... bad bit in the ramstrip... there is/was a big DDoS attack ongoing at EventDNS starting Friday Dec1, which could have caused bad packets.... That's why these controls are build in to ensure that files are completely integer before commencing computation.
----------------------------------------There are few reports on 175,000 work GC units since first showing on Nov.27. Whilst it's not nice for the individual, it is insignificant. Particular if you check quorum in the result status page, u might discover that 2nd / 3rd copy were already returned and pending validation. Only thing a bit out of ordinary is seeing good old reliable W2K on SP4. BOiNC 5.4.11 is perfect as the GC WU's require Zip/Unzip feature

OK, I'll let it go.
Yeah, I guess that Win2K is getting scarce these days. But you won't find XP or Vista on any computer that I own! First thing I do is format the harddrive, and install the latest version of Fedora Core and Win2K. And now BIONC. :-) Have a great day! |
