Re: MD5 check failed !

Hi MaitreYoda,

Can you post more lines of your message log before and after....Google suggest its download related.

Q.) What does MD5 check failed mean?
A.) To ensure that you receive an accurate copy of the data sent by the servers, each file is given a special check sum, based on the MD5 algorithm. After the BOINC client has completed the download of a file, it compares the checksum of the file received against the one that is on the server and if they are the same, then BOINC knows that the files are the same. This is good. If the checksum is different, then BOINC knows that the file it received is bad and records the MD5 checksum failure in the message log.
If you get a MD5 failure on any of the files that BOINC downloaded, then you must do a 'project reset' to get the correct files. BOINC will be unable to process any work until it has received all the files correctly.

please advise, then also include your OS and BOiNC versions, the work unit name it failed on and the computer ID... something like 34567 which u should find at beginning of message log

Edit: If the reset does not work, then follow this thread for more pointers.

I have seen this several times, but the other downloads still run and are crunching. It sets itself to a retry in a few hours (since the message says the server may be down.) I'll check the machine where I last saw the message, but it is currently downloading other things. If there's still one left struggling, I'll put it out of its misery.

I did. The final 2 downloads are gone that had been reset and the queue is clean.

Re: MD5 check failed !

Retsof,

It may not be necessary to do the reset.... question of monitoring.... all the other reads suggest that poor comms can cause this and retries will be attempted. Simply canceling the particular WU may be enough, but maybe it leaves traces in the project dir to come to bite later. One could work off the remaining WU's, set meantime the 'do not fetch new work' and than after work buffer / tasks depletion, do a project reset to be on the save side. The checks and balances on the newer BOiNC versions server/client has much improved.

cheers

Re: MD5 check failed !

The wrinkles may still be showing up, as this is a new project. I did not reset the whole thing ... just aborted a couple of downloads.

Re: MD5 check failed !

knreed posted about the problem:

This is a bug in the BOINC client. It will be fixed in the 5.8.4 and higher versions of the BOINC client (this version is very close to being released).
