Hi TheRealYeti,
----------------------------------------Please read here for some of the Q&A on GC versus SIMAP: What's the difference between this project and SIMAP? From my reading here and elsewhere, GC is is going way further than what SIMAP did. Also visit Rosetta@home on the benefits the SIMAP library offers to build further Distributed Computing science on. The WCG advisory board consisting of 17 scientists, review all projects extensively to identify their best contribution to the life science objectives of WCG i.e. maximize the return and obviously with a view in mind not to duplicate what has already been gained in knowledge. cheers

It would be great if one of the Genome Comparison scientists could discuss this question for us. Already several people have asked it, and it would be wonderful to have an explanation from the people who understand it best.

Lets use the plural "questions" and also include the upcoming new "Carbone" ( fcg1 5.05, Decrypthon ? ) project mentioned in the Beta Test Support Forum. Hey PaulT, thought the other thread on same where u asked for permission to copy had a good interpretation by Lawrence, but yes it would be nice if Fiocruz themselves spend a few words on the non-simularities. There's also at SIMAP a discussion on same in German (use universal translator....i dont need one ;>). The starter of this thread hopped over from there. They send an email to Fiocruz awaiting answer....also they sighted WCG's 17 man board who would ensure there'd be no duplication..... standing by :O

From my reading here and elsewhere, GC is is going way further than what SIMAP did "Did"? SIMAP is not done yet. They just moved to a monthly schedule. ![]() |

zombie67, .... okay, 'does' if u want to clone hairs. They update their library when new targets are available and already have announced the date for the December run. It takes them little wall clock time in a month to clear them (if enough machines remain on standby checking for work of course). What's important to them is, that if they had a plan for further/deeper investigation, they won't be duplicating what's in progress here..... one member there dropped the word 'competition'..... they are welcome to join GC for the rest of the month while on standby for SIMAP :D

Nix on the GC here until my Linux boxes get fair points for crunching GC. Same applies to other WCG projects that screw Linux. Maybe when BOINC 5.8 comes out, if it has Linux benchmarks fixed. If it doesn't then I won't because there are just too many projects that treat Linux right.
