Actually, it was yesterday (Nov. 21st) that was the first birthday of both the HomeBrewers team, which I formed, and of my own membership; I just arrived home too late to post last night. Anyway, I am very saddened by the way things are quickly going downhill here in the WCG forums, and I am now considering either trying another project completely, or simply quiting the forums while still continuing my crunching for the WCG (okay, knock off the applause, because there is a serious problem here). Besides the reoccurring bickering that seems to be far too frequent, I see posts like these:
----------------------------------------snipped quote from offensive post suggesting violence ... and this ... snipped quote from offensive post accusing catholic priests, in general, of having sex with children, in somewhat graphic description As a Catholic, I am particularly offended by such a remark, ... plus ... that was a wonderful welcome to a brand new team that has just formed here, wasn't it? Personally, I'm wondering if the best thing that the WCG could do would be to reduce the forums to handling just technical problems -- and make them fully moderated, at that (i.e., not allow any posts that have not been first approved by a moderator). I mean, the forums are fun, but they are also a reflection upon our project, and mean-spirited things like the above are not going to help gain support -- neither new members, nor the type of support that I've been busting my butt trying to promote. Folks, you need to get it together here -- quick. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 24, 2006 3:52:45 PM] |

Bill,
----------------------------------------I'm terribly sorry, but it's all the very same person, which gets banned and shows up as yet another one... he's done the identical thing at more DC's. The sentence construct and choice of words give him away in no time..... but now he does not even attempt and goes straight off with incendiary stuff from first post, first line. Quitting is not the answer. I'm hear for a cause, whether I'd be participating in this forum or not..... could close the door today on the forum, ask a technical question to keep the crunchers going and get on. Where folk disagreements will occur.... well u write about doing work at court, so u see it close up what the resultants are. This is though 'our' World Community Grid, so who wants to disrupt the 'our' is requested to stay away. Happy Birthday Bill to you and the Home Brewers Team and many happy returns. cheers (it's a A.M.... bit early to raise a beer glass) PS... i'll look up the lyrics :D

Thanks to most of you who replied. I understand the sentiments that have been expressed, and I understand we have a troll amongst us, and how difficult it is when people can just assume new identities when they are banned. But I want those of you who matter to understand that I will not be giving up my crunching for the good of mankind; if I happen to leave the WCG altogether, it will be so that I can move to some other (equally?) beneficial project such as folding@home, but I can assure you that my spare power will not be wasted. On the other hand, I've spent a lot of time and effort promoting the WCG, and using it as an example in my Project 2plus2is4, so I'd hate to have to rework all of that, so I might just leave the forums ... at least for awhile until the juvenile behavior stops. It's not that I'm running away and hiding, and I sure don't want to let some low-life win, but spending time in the forums is not a necessity, and if it isn't pleasant or productive, why do so?
----------------------------------------Let me guess: wallsb-k = fornot. HEY, CLOWN, GET A LIFE! Why don't you do something constructive and worthwhile? I can't imagine having a life that is so small, unimportant, and fruitless, that I'd need to get my kicks by pestering and annoying other people at the risk of damaging something as important as the work that we do here. I guess it's the same perverted mentality of people who write viruses to deliberately destroy without regard to who or what they damage. Anyway, it's a shame that a few folks ruin it for the majority; I can nail them in court when they are caught, but I can't do much about it here. So how can we fix this? If nelsoc's job (?) is to eventually read every post so that he can edit profanity, than I suggest that WCG adopt a rule of moderating all posts -- at least from new members. At any rate, I'm not going to feed the troll, so regardless of what is posted from him/her from this point forward, I won't be responding. Good luck to everyone. I sure wish that I could have seen my team make it to the Top-100 before leaving, but we are now actually losing ground. ![]() Cheers, and a very Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate the holiday. Hi, phicksus. We'll see how things develop, but I had an idea that I wanted to pass on that, if it could be implemented, would make life here a lot more tolerable for all of us. I don't know much about programming and how the scripts for these forums work, but it would be tremendous if it would be possible for any member to choose to easily "filter" another poster by name, such as by simply clicking on an icon similar to the red-faced icon that appears below each post for the purpose of reporting threats. Then when I read the first post from 'foreskin' or whatever his/her name was, I could have 'zapped' the idiot and then I never would have seen his/her other offensive remarks. I'm sure many would be grateful for the ability to filter me, too.
----------------------------------------Cheers. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 22, 2006 3:21:58 PM] |

I've seen that option at other sites. At those I think it was an option in member settings. Not sure what type of forum software they were using though. Seems there is a suggestion thread around somewhere. You could always post it there.
